Just three words to describe this place: Kick Ass Kakes. The name might give away a hint of their cakes, but the work still leaves you with a “wow.” They are not ordinary one-layer designs, these are sculpted cakes. They vary in shapes, sizes and designs.

“I think my cakes, sculptures and details I and you don’t normally see in a cake,” owner of KAK Jay Murphy said.

Murphy’s cakes vary from ideas, like a shoe, dog, hamburger, sport, a Gucci hand bag; you name it, he gives it a try to make your dream cake come true.

“We go through the fashions, (you know) the shoe boxes, the shoes, the purses, the baseball hats, baseball items, sports items, football helmets, and then a wave of animals,” Murphy said. “They go through waves. I think I have covered a lot of different topics.”

Kick Ass Kakes not only varies in cake designs, but also in “one-of a kind” flavors. Murphy said that “as long as the flavors work together” the ideal cake flavor might be at reach.

Murphy started his business two years ago, and since then he has competed in numerous cake sculpting competitions.

“I have won some, placed… usually placed in them, but it varies,” Murphy said. Among his photos of sculpted cakes, a geisha shaped one stands out.

The geisha sculpture cake won first place at the NACE competition in 2009.

He started two months building the small detailed parts, but on the day of the competition the geisha fell apart. Determined to place or even win this competition, Murphy modified the geisha with short-time notice.

“The morning of the competition she fell apart, and I had to start her over. So I modified her from being standing to just a torso,” Murphy said.

His time varies depending on the design one elects, but the quality of the cake is nevertheless. Check out Kick Ass Kakes’ website at: www.kickasskakes.com or feel free to contact Jay Murphy at (480) 421-8244. You are just one step away from tasting your dream cake.
